Hi my name is Barbara. I work as a Welwyn Garden City Osteopath. I Graduated from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine (BCOM) in 1996 with a first class honours degree in osteopathic medicine. The training involved four years full time education.
My working week is divided between my practice in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire and the Alan Herdman Pilates Studio in central London W1. I also lecture at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine teaching first and second year osteopathic students.
As a junior I competed at national level in the 400m athletics event. Plagued by injury I became interested in sports rehabilitation and qualified as a sports massage therapist in 1980. I then worked in the leisure industry for over 12 years where I gained specialist qualifications in rehabilitative exercise, working with pre/post natal women, the over 50’s, weight and circuit training.
Whilst studying for my degree I was introduced to Pilates and have worked alongside Alan Herdman who introduced Pilates to the UK in 1970. It is at his studio that I also run my London clinic.
As well as an interest in sports injuries, I have also worked with musicians, particularly violinists and flutists who often suffer shoulder, neck and upper back pain.
Work with animals
Following graduation I furthered my studies in equine and canine osteopathy.
I also work from two veterinary practices in London and Hertfordshire and in my spare time enjoy spending time with my own horses.
